September has been a month full of football for us. Between Hunter playing in both JV and Varsity games and Alabama games, we have been in football heaven.
We started the month in Dallas. I wrote about this a little in the last post, but for those who may have missed it, Hunter wanted to go to the Alabama season opener against Michigan at Cowboy Stadium for his birthday so we went. The game was on September 1 at 7:00 pm. We spent a lazy Saturday morning at the hotel before we headed to downtown Dallas for a little tailgating. A friend of mine invited us to a tailgate so we went. We spent the afternoon at a very nice (and I'm sure very expensive) house eating, talking and watching some football with some great Bama fans. Big thanks to Shane for inviting us. He tailgates at all of the Alabama home games too. Check out his blog alabamatailgate.com if you're interested in his game day menus. We headed over to the stadium around 4:00 pm. Since our tickets were standing room only, we wanted to get there early so we could secure ourselves a good spot for watching the game. We got there a little while before the gates opened, so we took some pictures (including one with the Coaches' Trophy) and waited for the gates to open. We wound up in a great spot and had a great view of the game. Now I know that every team has its share of obnoxious fans, including Alabama, but some of the Michigan fans we were standing by were some of the worst I have encountered. Of course, the Bama fans around us had a pretty good comeback for everything the Michigan fans threw our way - scoreboard. Alabama played a great game and came out on top with a final score of 41-14. Based on the way Alabama played during that game, it's going to be a great year to be a Tide fan. We headed back home on Sunday the 2nd. Our trip home wasn't quite as exciting as our trip there, but we were happy to be back in TTown. 1300 miles in 3 days was a lot but it was worth it to watch Bama dominate Michigan in Cowboy Stadium. Happy Birthday Hunter and Taylor and Merry Christmas Joseph! :)
On the 4th, the JV Chargers took on their cross-town rivals, Tuscaloosa Christian. The boys played great and won big! The final score was 30-6. It's shaping up to be a great season for our JV boys!
The Varsity NRCA Chargers were back in action on the 7th. Katelyn presented the flag during the National Anthem and did a great job. Hunter played a good bit during the game again and our boys got a much-needed win. The final score was 66-20. It was fun to watch them having such a good time playing that night. It was also fun watching Coach Kevin get his first post-game soaking from the boys.
We headed to Bryant-Denny stadium on the 8th to sell some radios and watch Alabama in their first home game of the season. We sold almost $8100 worth of radios that day before watching Alabama shut out Western Kentucky 35-0. Nothing like spending a Saturday at Bryant-Denny stadium. If you're lucky enough to be in Tuscaloosa on game day, you're lucky enough.
On the 10th, the JV Chargers travelled to Columbus, MS to play against Victory Columbus. This is probably my least favorite team that we play for various reasons. Our boys played their hearts out but came up short. They kept it close though with a final of 20-16.
The varsity Chargers played New Life at home on the 14th. Again those boys played hard but came up short. It's difficult to watch them play so hard and not walk away with a win. They are a great group though and they won't give up. I know they have another win in them. I just know it.
Alabama played at Arkansas on the 15th so no selling radios or going to the stadium that day. We just watched football all day at home. Bama won BIG with a 52-0 shut out. And that's why the Crimson Tide is the #1 team in the nation. ROLL TIDE!!
On the 18th, the JV Chargers played their first home game at Charger Field. They played their cross-town rivals, Tuscaloosa Christian and came away with a win 46-16. Hunter helped his team by recovering a fumble and scoring his first-ever touchdown! He caught a screen pass and ran it about 65 yards for the score. He was so excited I took him to Krispy Kreme for a special treat after the game. Katelyn also had a big night. The Jr Cheerleaders got to cheer at the game. They even got to perform at half time. They did a great job too! Here are a few pics of the big TD by #10.
No varsity football game on the 21st, but we had a Bama game to go to on the 22nd. We sold radios and watched the Tide win again, 40-7 over Florida Atlantic. I wanted another shut out, but the 3rd string defense gave up a touchdown late in the game. Oh well...
The JV Chargers were action at Charger Field again on the 24th. They played the Tabernacle Torches and Hunter scored his second touchdown of the season. The Chargers won big again with a final score of 38-12. Katelyn and the Jr Cheerleaders did a great job of cheering at the game again too. Here are pics of the 2nd TD and one of my little cheerleader.
On the 25th, the 7th-12th grades at NRCA left for Spiritual Emphasis week at The Wilds in North Carolina. This was Hunter's 4th trip to this camp and he loves it! We had breakfast (very early) at City Cafe and headed over to the school to load up the buses. There were 60 people total that made the trip. While there were gone, we had special company at our house. Rebekah and Elizabeth Seale stayed with us Tuesday and Wednesday night while their mom and brothers were at The Wilds. We had a great time while they were here. The weather was so nice on Wednesday that we went to the park after school and played until dark. Hunter and his friends got back from camp on Friday the 28th. I loved hearing all about his week with his friends but I sure was happy to have him back home. No varsity football game this week either since the team went on the trip.
On the 29th, we headed back to the happiest place on earth, Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Tide played Ole Miss in their first SEC match up of the season. It was a late game with an 8:15 pm kickoff and the weather wasn't exactly great. It was overcast and rained some before the game. Thankfully the rain held off during the game, though, and the Tide walked away with a 33-14 win.
That pretty much covers our month. Nothing but football. Well, we had school and work and all of the normal stuff too, but I feel like we've been at the football field more than we've been home this month. And that's perfectly ok with us. One more month of high school football and only a couple more months of Alabama football this season. We're going to enjoy it while it lasts. Go Chargers and Roll Tide!!
Before I end this post, here are a couple more pictures of my favorite "boy of fall". Go #10!!
