Just Another Day...Nothing Special

I've posted about the sad things that have happened so far this year, so I thought it was time for a happy udpate.  Here are the boring, normal things that have happened so far in 2012.

Started out January by going back to work.  We have a "biggest loser" type weight loss contest a couple of times a year.  I reluctantly agreed to enter this contest.  My first day back at work was weigh in day.  I cussed every step of the way to the scale.  I mean, give me a break - a weigh in right after the holidays.  I stepped on the scale completely expecting to be horribly disappointed at the number that popped up and.....I had lost 10 pounds!!  Yep.  10 pounds!  Don't know how I did it but I walked away from that scale much happier than when I walked to it.  School started back and so did basketball.  Hunter's team started the new year with a loss unfortunately. They were no longer undefeated but they were still #1 in my book.  I also took a trip to New Orleans with some friends to watch Alabama play LSU at the Superdome for the National Championship.  Now I didn't have tickets to the acutal game, but I didn't care.  I just wanted to be there.  I was there for the '92 National Championship game (and I had tickets to the game and Alabama won), so I had to go again.  It was awesome!  We spent some time on Bourbon Street and it was like a crimson and white Mardi Gras after the game.  Just in case you didn't know, Alabama dominated the game.  The final score was 21-0 and LSU only crossed the 50-yd line one time during the entire game.  It was something special to watch.  On the way home, we stopped to eat at a little Japanese place in Hattiesburg, MS and met a new friend.  I have enjoyed getting to know him a little more through our Facebook messages.  Technology is an amazing thing and a great way to make new friends when used properly.  Katelyn started playing basketball mid-month.  She wound up being a pretty good basketball player.  She could out-dribble most of the boys on her team.  After the events of January 18- January 25, I went to the circus with the kids and some of their friends from school.  It was a much needed day of fun and laughter.  I ended the month by taking the kids and a friend to the SECHC hockey tournament to watch the Frozen Tide play.  We went Saturday night and wound up eating at the same place as several of the players.  The boys (Hunter and Taylor) were in heaven.  We had so much fun, we went back the next day to watch the rest of the tournament.

February started with us trying to get back to some sort of normal.  Work, school and basketball took up  most of our time.  Katelyn's basketball season ended (after she made some sweet free throws during her games) and all of the Junior League players were recognized at the last home game for the Varisty Chargers.  They were so excited about running out on the court and getting their trophies.  Went to the movies with Lori and saw The Vow on the 11th.  Tear-jerker but a great movie.  Much needed girl time.  Hunter and JV Chargers basketball team wound up in the State Championship game.  They lost a heartbreaker to the only team that beat them all season.  I so wanted them to win it all, but I was so proud of their 2nd place finish.  They really are a great group of boys.  Can't wait to see what they do next season.  Right after the Championship game on the 17th, I took off for Birmingham.  I shopped at the Galleria until my niece Rebecca got there.  Then we shopped a little longer and headed downtown to see Wicked.  OMG!  LOVED IT!!  It was so good, I didn't want the story to end.  Can't wait to see it again.  The Varsity Chargers would up playing for the State Championship and winning!  That was also their 50th win in a row.  Unfortunately we didn't get to watch the game.  We headed back to Scottsboro for a visit.  First visit since everything happened and it was difficult at times.  It was great seeing my family but hard to remember those who were no longer there.

So far 2012 has been a bit of a rollercoaster.  Feels like there have been more downs than ups.  I'm hoping that won't continue for the rest of this year.  I'm ready for some ups now.  Basketball has ended so I find myself having a bit more free time.  I started going back to the gym 4-5 days a week mid-February.  I'm 3 weeks in now and feeling pretty good about it.  I've convinced myself I can already see a difference in how I look.  Whether that's true or not doesn't really matter.  As long as I'm feeling good and believing it's making a difference, I'll keep going.  So even if you can't see a difference, just go along with me.  You'll see one eventually.

One more note before I end this post.  I thought about writing this last night, but yesterday was Dad's birthday.  He would have been 82.  Hard to believe he's not here with us anymore.  I wish I could have wished him a happy birthday face to face or at least on the phone.  Hopefully he heard me though.  Anyway I waited until today - thus the title of the post.  Just another day.....nothing special.  Hopefully the next post will be on a day that is special.  Hopefully.
